At least seven persons were killed and many others critically injured in a collision between a pickup van and a covered van on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Feni on yesterday night.
Harunur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohipal Highway Model Police Station confirmed the matter to the media saying that the tragic accident occurred in Hafezia madrasha area around 7pm, leaving seven people dead on the spot and 10 others injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
A highway police officer said some 14 to 15 construction workers boarding the pickup van were going to Dhaka from Chattogram. The speeding covered van crashed into the pickup van from the opposite direction, resulting in the casualties, he said.
The injured were taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, he said. Traffic on the busy highway remained disrupted until the police cleared the accident-damaged vehicles.
