Feasibility study on climate change mitigation at DIU

Environment and Forest Secretary Nojibur Rahman said, it is possible to save the country from the bad impact of climate change through restoring the environment with the collective efforts of all walks of people. He urged the brickfield owners to use environment friendly technology adopted by the government to protect the pollution and save the environment from the adverse effect of brickfields.
He also said, Imposing Laws on building environment friendly brick fields, government is not resisting development, rather assisting restoration of environment. Those who are building environment friendly brick fields maintaining government’s code of conduct and are cautious will be given privilege. Concerned official’s visiting team will inspect the brick fields all over the country immediately and identify those harmful to environment and go for legal actions against them, he added.
The forest secretary was addressing as the chief guest at the National presentation on “Feasibility Study of CleanTech In Brick Industry of Bangladesh and its potentials in Climate Change Mitigation” jointly organized by The Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of Daffodil International University (DIU), Ecorem-Abo Group (Belgium) and M Power (Bangladesh) on Tuesday at the University Auditorium. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University (Immediate Past President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, DCCI) was present as the Guest of Honor. Dr Stefan Helsen Director, Ecorem-Abo-Group (Belgium) and Tom Feyaerts- Director, Hydroscan (Belgium) were present as the special guests.
Prof Dr M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of DIU presided over the program while Prof Dr Mahbub Hasan, Visiting Professor, Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management, Daffodil International University presented the Keynote paper in the seminar. Prof Dr M Mizanur Rahman, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) delivered the address of welcome. The function was also address by Maarten Pelgrims, International Environmental Consultant, Ecorem-ABO Group, Belgium.
The speakers also emphasized on to introduce innovative technology and inspired the customers to adapt clean technology to create opportunities that will protect our economy as well as our social environment.
Beside this three technical session on “Steps towards Implementation of Belgian Clean Tech in Brick Industry of Bangladesh” by Dr Stefan Helsen, Director, Ecorem-ABO Group, Belgium, “Sustainable Development in the Brick Industry in Bangladesh-Challenges and Opportunities” by Maarten Pelgrims, International Environmental Consultant, Ecorem-ABO Group, Belgium, “Strategic organization of Sustainable Urban Development – Water and Sanitation” by Tom Feyaerts – Hydroscan (Belgium) were conducted.
