Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday said that the comments made by Major General ALM Fazlur Rahman (Retd) on his personal social media platform do not reflect the position or policies of the Interim Government.

“Government of Bangladesh wishes to clarify that the recent remarks made by Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman on his personal social media account were expressed solely in a personal capacity,” Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

“The comments do not reflect the position or policies of the Government of Bangladesh and as such the Government neither endorses nor shares such rhetoric in any form or manner,” it continued. In addition, it said, “The Government of Bangladesh urges all concerned to refrain from associating the Government of Bangladesh to the personal comments made by Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman.”

“Bangladesh remains firmly committed to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence of all nations,” he added.

Earlier, in a Facebook post, Fazlur Rahman had written, “If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy the seven northeastern states of India. We should begin discussions with China on joint military measures regarding this.”

Following this personal comment, Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam in a Facebook post on Wednesday said the interim government does not in any way agree with the views of the head of the BDR Commission, Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman.

He stated that Bangladesh respects the sovereignty and independence of all countries.
Shafiqul Alam mentioned that the current interim government does not support Fazlur Rahman’s statement. He added, “Bangladesh respects the sovereignty and independence of all countries and expects the same from others.”

He also stated that the comments made by Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman on his social media account are his personal views.

The Press Secretary further said, “The interim government does not in any way agree with his statement.”

Shafiqul Alam concluded by urging everyone not to consider Major General Fazlur Rahman’s personal opinion as the government’s opinion.
