The people of the four upazilas of Sonatala, Sariakandi, Gabtoli of Bogura and Islampur upzila of Jamalpur district were full of hope that their long standing sufferings are going to end soon. Fattehali Bridge, was built about 53 years ago over the Karotaya River in Bogura town. As a result of the reconstruction of the bridge, their quality of life will be improved in various ways, including education, health and business, as the district is the gateway to the northern region. But, The bridge has been closed to traffic since it was declared a dangerous bridge in 2018. After five long years, the government has finally decided to build a new bridge on the same spot which will not only ensure connectivity, but also enhance the beauty of the town. The 69m long and 12.3m wide bridge will be constructed at a cost of Taka 19.82 crore. On May 15 last year, Jamil Iqbal Enterprise and Mahfuz Khan Limited were jointly given the work order by the Bangladesh Road and Urban Development Department. Nine months have passed, but the old bridge has not been removed yet. Bamboo bridges have been built on both sides of the Fatehali Bridge for the movement of the general public. Parimal Chandra Das, councillor and panel mayor of the area, along with the locals, demanded that an iron bridge be built as long as the concrete bridge is not built.
