A retired government official and his son were seriously injured by a gang of unidentified armed assailants in their residence at Sabujbagh in the capital at dawn on Tuesday. The injured have been identified as Abul Hossain, 67, a retired Assistant Director of Bangladesh Board of Investment, and his son Ahad Hossain, 45.
They were first admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital immediately. Afterward, they were
shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, police said.
Quoting the victims and their relatives, Sabujbagh Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said that seven to eight armed assailants held the gatekeeper hostage at gunpoint and forcefully entered his residence on the fourth floor of 125/2 Baganbari at Madartek under Sabujbagh PS around 4:30am when they were sleeping. They attacked Abul Hossain and his son with machetes and long knives, leaving them critically injured.
“Police visited the spot. An investigation is underway,” the police official said.
No arrest in this connection has so far been made, the OC said.
