A Farmers’ Gathering and Agricultural Field Service Programme was held on Saturday (October 25) afternoon at the field of Jahanara Begum School and College in Gorashin, Korotia under Tangail Sadar Upazila. The event was organised under the banner of the Agriculturists of Tangail.
Agriculturist S. M. Khalid presided over the programme, while Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Publicity Secretary of the BNP Central Committee, attended as the chief guest. Farmers from different areas of Korotia Union joined the event as special guests.
Among others present were former Member Secretary of Tangail District BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former Organising Secretary Shafiqul Rahman Shafik, President of Sadar Upazila BNP Azgar Ali, and former General Secretary of the District Mohila Dal Advocate Momtaz Karim.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that the survival of the nation depends on the survival of farmers. To ensure fair prices for agricultural products, they emphasised the need to improve the availability of fertilisers, quality seeds, and pesticides. They also underscored the importance of promoting modern, technology-based farming practices.
Speakers further noted that the country’s food security and economic foundation are largely dependent on agriculture, stressing that it is now essential to enhance respect and incentives for farmers.
At the end of the programme, various fruit and forest saplings, improved varieties of seeds, medicines, and wheelchairs were distributed among the farmers.
