NN ONLINE:
A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging SM Farhad’s candidacy for the General Secretary post in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
Filing details: The petition was submitted on Sunday, 31 August, at the appropriate branch of the High Court by an organization named the Liberation War and Democratic Student Movement.
Grounds for challenge: The petition argues that Farhad was previously a member of the Chhatra League committee, raising questions about how he can now run on the Chhatra Shibir panel. Consequently, his candidacy is being challenged.
Petitioner and backing groups: The writ was filed by BM Fahmida Alam, who is contesting the DUCSU elections as the Liberation and People’s Movement Affairs Secretary under the panel “Aparajeyo 71, Adamya 24.” The petition is supported by three leftist student organizations: a faction of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, the Somajtantrik Chhatra Front, and the Bangladesh Chhatra League (the student wing of Bangladesh Jasad).
Candidates and posts: From the Chhatra Shibir side, Sadik Kayem is contesting for the Vice President post, while SM Farhad is contesting for the General Secretary post.
Election date: The DUCSU elections are scheduled to be held on 9 September.
