Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

A garden namely ‘Family nutrition garden’ has been grown aiming to meet the nutritional deficiency of people. Krishani Titu Khatun of Gokulnagar area of Sara Union of Iswardi said that she has made a family nutrition garden on one and a half percent of her land. My aim was to increase immunity and provides energy to the children and others. She sold some vegetables produced in that garden after meeting the nutritional needs of her family.
The Department of Agricultural Extension in Ishwardi has established more than 216 nutrition gardens in Ishwardi under the scheme of establishing family nutrition gardens in uncultivated fallow lands and homestead yards. Implementation of another 119 family nutrition gardens is in progress. Vegetables worth lakhs of taka are produced every year from these nutrient gardens. As a result, self-reliance in families is increasing along with meeting nutritional needs.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, 3-40 percent of nutrients and 4-32 percent of protein needs can be met from these nutrient gardens. And if the vegetable garden of one and a half percent of the land produces 200 kg of vegetables per year, the amount of vegetables produced in the vegetable garden from the 216 family vegetable gardens of the upazila is about 43,200 kg. If vegetables are sold at an average rate of Tk 30 per kg, the market value is around Tk 12 lakh 96 thousand. As a result, the families under the nutrition garden of the government are saving a large amount of money.
Farmer Mohammad Ali of Gopalpur area of Sara has planted a family nutrition garden. He meets the nutritional needs of the family with the vegetables produced from there and sells them in the market as well as gives them to his neighbors.
All the money that was used to buy vegetables from the market every month is now saved by Muhammad Ali. Earlier it was necessary to buy 2-3 thousand taka of vegetables per month, now it is not necessary. Now I am getting it from the garden and eating fresh food.
