BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire and said that anyone found responsible must be brought to justice, while also urging the government to provide compensation to the families affected by the devastating blaze at Dhaka’s Korail slum.

He said, “Thousands of people reside in the Karail settlement. They have been rendered helpless by the blaze, and it is a serious setback for the impoverished community.”

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon after inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Thakurgaon District BNP.

The BNP secretary general added that he does not see the incident as an act of conspiracy.
He noted that the fire had left thousands of residents of the Karail slum homeless overnight, describing the incident as a severe blow to low-income families who were already struggling with daily hardships. According to him, the affected people have lost everything and are now in urgent need of support and rehabilitation.

Mirza Fakhrul further said that he does not consider the incident to be part of any conspiracy. Rather, he pointed out that such fires and accidents are becoming increasingly common in different establishments across the country due to insufficient fire safety measures and widespread violations of safety regulations.

He said, “Such disasters are increasing in various establishments across the country-especially in garment factories and other industrial units-due to inadequate fire-fighting arrangements and violations of safety regulations. With an effective fire extinguishing system in place, these incidents can be avoided much more easily.”
