A female voter named Shahnaz Begum (25) has been sentenced by mobile court to six months imprisonment for attempting to cast vote for the second time in Sadar union parishad election of Patuakhali district.
The incident took place at West Viala Government Primary School Center of Bhuria Union Parishad of Sadar Upazila on Sunday around 1 pm.
Confirming the matter,Executive Magistrate Mizanur Rahman said that the candidate’s agents got suspicious when she entered polling booth wearing burqa for the second time at around 12:30 noon.
After challenged, she admitted that came to vote center for casting vote in second time.
She was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment without labor by mobile court as per section 171 of 1860 of the Bangladesh Election Commission Act after pleading guilty, the magistrate said.
Ekhlasur Rahman, the presiding officer of that center said that the convicted Shahnaz is a resident of Viala area.
Shahnaz Begum acknowledged that she was caught while voting for a member candidate for the second time.
According to Patuakhali District Election Office sources, four candidates, nine reserved members and 25 general members contested for the post of chairman in Bhuria Union and three candidates are contested for the post of chairman, eight for reserved members and 26 for general members in Kamalapur Union Parishad elections under Patuakhali district.
About 28,000 voters could exercise their voting rights in 18 polling stations in these two unions.
