At least 10 people from both groups were injured in the clashes between two groups of Jubo League (JL) over occupying CNG station and levying tolls on Gogai-Sakhipur-Dhaka road in Gogai industrial area in Mirzapur, Tangail. The clashes turned into a battleground in the Hatuvanga area of the industrial area. Five of the injured have been hospitalised.
On receiving the information, the law enforcement officers reached the spot and brought the situation under control. After the incident, both groups filed counter-suits blaming each other. One group is led by Khan Ahmed Shubo MP’s Personal Assistant (PS) Mir Asif Anik and the other group is led by Upazila Parishad Chairman Barrister Tahrim Hossain and Mir Moin Hossain Rajiv, son of former chairman Mir Enayet Hossain Montu, is leading the group. There is intense tension in the entire area around this incident. The incident took place at noon on Hatuvhanga Road in Gogai Shilpan area of Mirzapur Upazila on Sunday (July 7).
It is known that around 150 CNG trucks are plying on the Gogai-Sakhipur-Dhaka road in the Gogai industrial area. CNGs are plying on various roads including Banshtail, Taktarchal, Sakhipur, Garobazar, Nalua, Sagardighi, Patharghata. Khan Ahmed Shubo MP’s personal assistant (PS) Mir Asif Anik and the other group, Barrister Tahrim Hossain, the chairman of Upazila Parishad, and Mir Moin Hossain Rajib, son of former chairman Mir Enayet Hossain Montu, have been involved in a long-standing dispute over the occupation of CNG stations and collection of subscriptions.
There have been fights over this in the past. CNG drivers and passengers complained that they have to pay 50 taka per day from 150 CNG stations on the Gogai-Sakhipur-Dhaka road in the name of labor union. Every day the subscription is about 7 thousand 500 thousand taka. In this way, monthly subscription is about 2 lakh 25 thousand taka and yearly subscription is about taka 27 lakh. Jubo League leader Mir Moin Hossain Rajiv has been raising this contribution for a long time. After the last parliamentary election, the MP’s personal assistant Mir Asif Anik’s people are collecting this subscription.
MP’s personal assistant (PS) and Jubo League leader Mir Asif Anik complained that the President and General Secretary of Tangail District Autorickshaw, Auto tempo and CNG Sramik Union Reg-3008 asked Tipu Sultan as the president and Md. Manjurul Haque Khan was given a committee as general secretary. This committee is the legitimate committee and the leaders of this committee have been controlling the CNG stations.
