A clash erupted between two groups at the central office of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) in the city’s Banglamotor. At least seven students, including women, were injured in the incident, which occurred around 4:30pm on Tuesday. The reason behind the clash could not be known immediately.
The injured were later rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital.
The injured are— Imran Sarkar, 21, of East West University, Jannatul Mim, 22, of Tejgaon College, Abrar, 22, Alamin, 25, Afsar Uddin, 25, Asif, 24, a student of Kabi Nazrul College, and Masud, 24, a student of Demra Boro Madrasa.
Alamin, who was injured in the attack and receiving treatment at DMCH, said, “There was a coordination meeting for the Jatrabari zone coordinators.
During the meeting, one of our comrades was attacked in their presence. Later, when we came to the central office to discuss the matter today, we were attacked again. Several of our comrades were seriously injured and are now receiving treatment in the emergency department.”
DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md Faruk said, “Several students have arrived at the emergency department from Banglamotor with injuries.
All of them are undergoing treatment.”
Regarding the incident, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Convener Hasnat Abdullah said, “I just arrived at the scene after hearing the news. I will assess the situation and gather information before providing further details.”
