A case has been filed against former state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam and 89 others on charge of complicity in extortion in Rajshahi district earlier this month.
Mukhlesur Rahman Mukul, a resident of Bagha upazila, lodged the case with Bagha Police Station on Sunday mentioning names of 39 people as accused.
In his petition, Mukhlesur Mukul mentioned that the accused people intercepted him from going home and demanded a toll of Tk10 lakh from him.
When he refused to pay the money they snatched Tk50,000 from
him on 3 August. Mukul also pointed out that they also had threatened to kill him, if he raised the issue before the public.
Abu Bakker Siddique, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station, confirmed the registration of the case, saying his team is working to bring the accused to book as early as possible. He, however, said all of them remained absconding.
Meanwhile, another case has been also filed agansit against 50 people including film actor Zayed Khan, Saju Khadem and Shahriar Nazim Joy, for attacking the motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia during electioneering nine years ago.
Singer Asif Imam filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Court on Sunday. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-Al-Farabi asked the Motijheel Police Station to record the case as ‘Azhar’.
Awami League leaders–Sheikh Selim, Sheikh Helal, Col Faruk Khan, Fazle Noor Taposh, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, alias Nixon Chowdhury, Sayeed Khokon, BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, journalist Shaban Mahmood, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Jasad president Hasanul Haque Inu, ex-addtional deputy commissioner Mehedi Hasan were among the accused.
