Exports swell 2.77pc in Feb

The export basket performance of the country in February reached US $3.97 billion grew by 2.77 percent compared to February of the previous year, According to the data from Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Total exports for the July-February period of FY 2024-25 stood at $32.94 billion, marking a 10.53 percent increase from $29.81 billion recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

In July-February of the current fiscal year, of the ready-made garment exports rose 10.64 percent year-on-year to $26.80 billion compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year,
The knitwear item shipments rose 11.01 percent year-on-year to $14.34 billion compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB)

On the other hand, exports of woven garments grew by 10.22 percent year-on-year to $12.46 billion in July-February compared to the same period of the last fiscal year.

As in previous months, the apparel sector remained the dominant contributor, with exports amounting to $3.24 billion, posting a modest 1.66 percent growth compared to February 2024.
However, Knitwear export $1.65 billion increased 3.77 percent while woven export $1.69 billion increased 0.44 percent.

Apart from this, other traditional sectors also registered notable growth in February 2025, including leather and leather goods 34.37 percent, frozen and live fish 26.66 percent, plastic products around 7.97 percent, agricultural products 7.03 percent. According to the statistics of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the BGMEA, the organization of ready-made garment industry owners, said that half of the ready-made garment exports in the first half of the current fiscal year were destined for the EU.

Ready-made garment exports worth $9.87 billion were made to this large market. This export is 15.22 percent more than the last fiscal year.

Among the EU countries, garments worth $500 million or more were exported to Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Italy and Denmark.

Of these, exports to other countries except Spain and Italy increased by more than 10 percent.
According to BGMEA, ready-made garments worth $2.47 billion were exported to Germany in the first half of the current fiscal year.

The United States is the largest market for Bangladeshi ready-made garments as a single country. Ready-made garments worth $3.84 billion were exported to that country in the first half of the current fiscal year.
