From December 28, 2024, Shilpakala Academy’s Experimental Theatre Hall will be opened for staging dramas. Along with that, new names are being given to the seven auditoriums of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).
This information was given by Director General of BSA, Syed Jamil Ahmed at the opening ceremony of the stand-up comedy show centred around contemporary and political realities organised by the Department of Drama and Film of the BSA.
At 7:00pm in the evening on that day, the play ‘Joke er Rajneeti’ was staged at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the BSA. Akhlak Siddiqui, Shawon Majumder, Syed Ridwan Hossain Bipro, Mahedi Hasan Toru, Sami Doha, among others, presented the comedy performances.
On the opening ceremony, DG of BSA Syed Jamil Ahmed said, “Shilpakala Academy is always people-friendly. We don’t want to do anything by government; we want to create a people-friendly environment with everyone.”
“Not only in Dhaka, our programmes are going on in all the districts as well. From photography training for garment workers to concerts, band shows, Jatra festivals, Sadhu Mela, mass awakening songs, debates, sculpture exhibition and various events are taking place across the country,” he also said.
Regarding the naming of the auditoriums of the Shilpakala Academy, Jamil Ahmed said, “Experimental Theatre Hall is named after Selim Al Deen Natyalay, Studio Theatre Hall is named as Chandrabati Natyalay. The National Theatre Auditorium will be converted into Kabi Alaol Natyalay. From December 28, 2024 the Experimental Theatre Hall will be opened for staging dramas.”
The Director General of BSA said that the new names of the seven auditoriums of Shilpakala Academy has been finalised.
According to inquiry, the names of four more auditoriums of the Fine Arts building and Music, Recitation and Dance buildings have been finalised.
Among them, one auditorium of Music, Recitation and Dance building, and another under construction auditorium are named after musician Ustad Alauddin Khan and mysterious saint Shah Abdul Karim.
The auditorium of Fine Arts Building and another auditorium under construction have been named after painters S M Sultan and sculptor Novera Ahmed.
It is noted that on December 18, the new names were approved in the Board of Directors meeting of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The Shilpakala Academy will officially announce after completing the processes related to this.
