Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former RAJUK member (State and Land), fled the court premises despite filing a surrender application in a case filed by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) over alleged abuse of power in government plot allocations in the Purbachal New City project.
The case was scheduled for testimony at Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 on Wednesday. Khurshid Alam, the fifth accused, appeared in court through his lawyer and applied for bail.
However, ACC sources said he left the premises before the judge entered the courtroom.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed six separate cases in January alleging irregularities and corruption in Purbachal plot allocations. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter and British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddique, son Radwan Mujib Siddique, daughter Azmina Siddique, and several others were named in the cases. Chargesheets for all six cases have been submitted to the court.
On 31 July, Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 framed charges in three cases: one with 12 accused including Sheikh Hasina, the second with 17 accused including Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and the third with 18 accused including Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul.
The remaining three cases were framed in Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 by Judge Md. Rabiul Alam, each listing 17–18 accused, including Sheikh Rehana, Tulip Siddique, Radwan, and Azmina Siddique. Arrest warrants have been issued for those absconding.
The cases allege that Sheikh Hasina and her family misused their positions to secure 10-katha plots in Sector 27 of the Purbachal Housing Project despite being ineligible for the allotments.
