Ex-NICRH director faces Tk200cr bribery drive

Staff Reporter :

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an enforcement drive against Professor Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa, former director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), over allegations of attempting to buy his way into the interim government as health adviser.

ACC Deputy Director Md Akhtarul Islam confirmed the move on Thursday, saying a special team from the commission’s head office is conducting raids at NICRH and other related offices.
“Dr Mostafa is under investigation for alleged abuse of power, illegal accumulation of wealth, and offering bribes to secure a powerful post through dishonest means.

Further details will be disclosed after the operation ends,” Akhtarul told media.
According to the allegations, Dr Mostafa sought appointment as health adviser and, in the process, entered into a financial deal with a so-called student coordinator group that claimed links to the state guest house Jamuna, the official residence of the chief adviser.

He is accused of handing over Tk10 lakh in cash along with four cheques amounting to Tk200 crore to the group in exchange for their assistance in securing the position.

The ACC said the drive is part of a broader crackdown on corruption in public health institutions and attempts to influence the interim administration through illicit financial transactions.
