The court has postponed the arrest hearing of former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases, including four murder cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement. The hearing was scheduled for Thursday , but it was delayed due to the “lockdown” program called by the now-banned political party, the Awami League.

Inspector Kaiyum Khan of Narayanganj Court Police confirmed the matter, saying that due to the tense situation created by the lockdown and for security reasons, it was not possible to bring the accused to court. As a result, the prosecution could not proceed with the hearing. The concerned Judicial Magistrate Court later rescheduled the hearing for November 18 and ordered that Ivy may be connected virtually on that date.

Earlier, on May 9, Ivy was arrested in connection with a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement and has been held in Gazipur’s Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail for the past six months. Later, police showed her as “shown arrested” in four more cases.

Before that, on November 9, a High Court bench consisting of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md. Sagir Hossain granted her bail in all five cases. However, that same day, Narayanganj Sadar Model Police applied to the court to show her arrested in a case filed over an attack on police and obstruction of government duties. The following day, Fatullah Model Police filed petitions to show her arrested in four more cases related to casualties during the anti-discrimination movement.
