Pallabi Thana police have arrested Safia Khatun, a former member of parliament (MP) representing the reserved seats for women from Chakaria-Pekua Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
Safia, also a former central president of the Mohila Awami League was arrested on Saturday night from Balurghat area of pallabi thana in connection with Akram Khan Rabbi murder during the anti-discrimination student movement in Pallabi, police said.
Police said they arrested Safia as her involvement with the murder was found in the CCTV footage apart from an intelligence report.
Akram Khan Rabbi was killed on July 19 last when he was crossing the road in front of Mirpur-10 during a protest rally in support of the anti-discrimination student movement.
It was alleged that leaders and activists of various Awami League affiliated organisations opened fire on the protesters, injuring many of them including Rabbi.
Doctors of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) declared him dead as he was taken to the hospital.
On August 25, 2024, Akram’s father Faruk Khan filed a murder case in this connection with Pallabi thana police.
