Ex-MP, AL leader leader Afzal Hossain held

Police have been arrested Awami League (AL) leader, former
MP of Kishoreganj-5 (Bajitpur – Nikli) constituency and Managing Director of Afzal Shoes Company, Afzal Hossain from Meherpur town on early Monday.

He was arrested from a house at Taher Clinicpara in Meherpur town .
Additional SP of Kishoreganj Monotosh Biswas confirmed the matter.
He also said that, a team of Kishoreganj District Police has left for Meherpur to bring former MP Afzal Hossain.

Meherpur, district police said that influential Awami League leader, also ex-MP Afzal Hossain had been on the run since the fall of the government on August 5.

He was hiding in the house of an employee of Afzal Shoes a company he owned, in the Indian border area of Meherpur, intending to flee to India.

After receiving a tip-off, Meherpur Sadar Police Station conducted a raid and arrested him.

After the arrest, he was taken to the police station. He was supposed to go to India through the Sonapur border in Mujibnagar upazila on Monday morning. For this, he had contracted a gang on the border for a large sum of money.

There are at least 10 cases against him for murder and assault in Kishoreganj, Bajitpur and Dhaka in connection with the attack on a procession during the anti-discrimination student movement.
