The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former commerce minister and Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-4 constituency Tipu Munshi and his wife, Irena Malabika Munshi, on Thursday.

The ACC’s Director General (Prevention), Md Akhtar Hossain, confirmed the filing of the cases, saying: “The commission possesses information on a substantial amount of illegally acquired assets linked to the couple.”

In a regular briefing held in the afternoon, Md Akhtar
Hossain revealed that assets worth Tk11.95 crore were identified under Tipu Munshi’s name. Of this, there was no legitimate source for Tk5.90 crore.

Additionally, he was found to have conducted suspicious transactions amounting to Tk32.18 crore through 11 personal bank accounts, involving transfers, conversions, and concealment of income sources.

On the other hand, Irena Malabika Munshi possesses assets worth Tk6.25 crore, with no legal source found for Tk4.18 crore. Consequently, a separate case has been lodged against her.

The ACC has also decided to conduct a detailed investigation into Tipu Munshi’s two daughters, Tania Ananya Munshi and Trisha Munshi.

They reportedly hold several bank accounts, serve as directors of various companies, and own shares in different businesses.
