BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has labeled former Chief Justice Khairul Haque as a major enemy of the country, saying that he has caused great harm to the nation.
“He held a significant position and was responsible for determining the fate of Bangladesh from that position. He resorted to deception in that role-deceiving the people and betraying the state,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
Referring to the verdict on the caretaker government, he added, “He gave a verdict regarding the caretaker government, and the full judgment that followed was completely contradictory-like the difference between sky and earth. His verdict went against the state.” He demanded exemplary punishment for Khairul Haque so that no one in such a position dares to take similar actions in the future.
Fakhrul made these comments on Thursday at the BNP Chairperson’s office at Gulshan in the capital, after meeting with the families of students killed in the crashing of a trainee fighter jet into Milestone School in Uttara.
Thanking the government for eventually taking action against Khairul Haque, despite the delay in his arrest, he said, “A proper investigation must be conducted. Justice must be properly carried out.”
He said that making the abolition of the caretaker government system permanent has led to political crises in the country and has caused harm to the nation.
Fakhrul alleged, “The judiciary is the place where people have the highest trust. Khairul Haque completely destroyed that trust, solely because of his political ideology.”
Opposing the demolition of the Shishu Academy building, the BNP Secretary General said, “We oppose it because the institution plays a role in shaping children, their development, mental growth, and extracurricular activities. The initiative was taken by the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, who was the first to establish the Shishu Academy. Removing it would not be a right decision at all-it would stand as an obstacle to nation-building.”
