NN Online:
A Dhaka court on Monday placed former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on a four-day remand in connection with a case filed over alleged election irregularities.
The order was issued by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman following a hearing on a 10-day remand plea submitted by the investigation officer, confirmed Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi.
Huda was produced before the court earlier in the day, a day after being detained by police from his residence in Uttara, Dhaka, on Sunday evening.
His detention followed a case filed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday morning with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The complaint accuses 24 individuals—including former Chief Election Commissioners, Election Commissioners, and other officials involved in overseeing the 10th, 11th, and 12th national elections—of misconduct and partiality.
The case was filed by a four-member BNP delegation led by Salahuddin Khan, a member of the party’s National Executive Committee.
The FIR names former CECs Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, and Kazi Habibul Awal, along with several unidentified individuals.
BNP claims that the general elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024 were manipulated in favor of the ruling party, ignoring repeated demands for a neutral caretaker government and the deployment of armed forces with magistracy powers during polling.
