Ex-addl chief engr sent to jail

UNB, Chittagong :A Chittagong court on Monday sent Railway east zone former chief engineer (mechanical) to jail in connection with a railway graft case.Divisional special judge Ataur Rahman passed the order when he surrendered before his court. Earlier on March 2, two other accused of the case-Abul Kashem and Anisur Rahman- were sent to jail on surrender.On March 3, another court sent suspended Bangladesh Railway (East Zone) general manager Yusuf Ali Mridha to jail after rejecting his bail petitions in five cases filed over his alleged corruption in railway recruitment.A total of six cases were filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) with Kotwali police station on September 13 ,2012 in connection with railway graft.Hafizur Rahman was an accused in two cases filed over corruption and irregularities in recruiting people to the posts of railway fuel checker and assistant chemist.On April 9, 2012, Border Guard Bangladesh detained former Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s assistant personal secretary and Mridha along with Tk 70 lakh stashed in a car. It was believed that the money was collected from job aspirants to railway as bribe.
