The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday arrested a former Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) from the city’s Matsya Bhahban area in connection with a corruption case after the High Court rejected his bail petition.
The arrestee Zafar Alam,
a former ADC (revenue) of Cox’s Bazar, was arrested around 12:30 pm, said Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan, an ACC lawyer.
Earlier in the day, the HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath rejected the bail petition of Zafar on the plea that the petition was not submitted properly before it as the charge sheet of the case was submitted to the lower court concerned, he said.
Later, ACC officials produced Zafar before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Waez Kuruni Khan Chowdhury after his arrest. The magistrate sent him to jail, court sources said.
SM Mahmudur Rahman, a Land Acquisition Officer, filed the case with Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station on December 7, 2014 against several persons, including one Anisur Rahman, on charge of misappropriating Tk 19.82 crore of the victims, who were supposed to get compensation from the government for losing lands, through forgery, according to the charge sheet.
Later, the ACC investigated the case and submitted charge sheet against 36 people, including Zafar Alam, to the lower court concerned in April this year, court sources said.
