The 4th International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM 2025) was inaugurated at East West University, says a press release. The three-day event began on 16 September 2025 at the university’s Manzur Elahi Auditorium in Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
With the theme “From Access to Action: Rethinking Information Practices in an AI-driven Society”.The conference was organised by the Department of Information Studies, EWU. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor of EWU, while the welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies, EWU.
In his inaugural speech, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman said, “Artificial Intelligence (AI) is influencing almost every aspect of life today. Its use is rapidly expanding not just in technology or data science, but also in education, health, business, agriculture, and even security. However, it is crucial to understand the pros and cons of AI before using it.
If used incorrectly in business and administration, AI can lead to various problems, from financial losses to customer dissatisfaction. In the age of AI, it is difficult to determine what is false, what is misinformation, and what is disinformation.”Other speakers at the event included Dr. Hajime Shirasaka of Japan. Keynote speeches were presented by Professor Bernd Markscheffel from Germany and Professor Jean-Charles Lamirel from France.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, EWU, and a former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, has attended the conference, among others. More than 80 research papers from countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Finland, India, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka were presented at this year’s conference.
