East West University (EWU) hosted its first-ever research day on 24 May 2025 at its Aftabnagar campus in Dhaka, placing a strong emphasis on innovation and academic-industry collaboration. The day-long event aimed to underscore the significance of research in national advancement.
The inaugural session began with a welcome speech by EWU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shams Rahman. Mr. Shelley A. Mubdi, Member of the Board of Trustees, attended as the Chief Guest, while the session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founding Vice Chancellor of EWU.
Two panel discussions formed the heart of the day’s activities. The first, “Importance of Research in Transforming Bangladesh into an Innovative Nation,” explored how research can fuel national development. The second panel, “Importance of Academia-Industry Collaborative Research: Opportunities and Challenges,” addressed the need for stronger partnerships between universities and industry sectors.
Distinguished academics and industry professionals—Professor Haseena Khan, Dr. Rashidul Haque, Dr. A.K.M. Masud, Humaira Azam, Firoze Mohammad, and Shihab Ahmad—shared their expertise during the sessions.
A major highlight of the event was the “Three-Minute Presentation” competition, where students and faculty showcased their research in a concise format, reflecting the university’s commitment to accessible and impactful scholarship.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium, where 72 researchers were recognized for their contributions. Dr. Md. Mozammel Huq Azad Khan, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik delivered the vote of thanks, praising the active involvement of faculty and students in making the event a success.
