Labour and Employment Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain on Sunday expressed his government’s firm conviction to meet all the logical demands of the labourers and work to upgrade their living standard and congenial atmosphere for works.
“The new government will work for improving the living standard of the labourers. We’re firmly committed to fulfill their every reasonable demand,” he said, reports BSS.
The adviser made the remarks when International Labur Organisation (ILO) country director Tuomo Poutiainen paid a courtesy call on him at his Secretariat office here.
During the meeting, both of them discussed various issues involving welfare of the labourers such as ensuring their social protection, employment generation, training, enactment of timely labour laws, amendment to the existing laws, stoppage of the child labour and create conducive environment for works.
Asif said they would make required amendments to the existing labour laws and pay more attention to execute those.
He informed that his government has formed a committee after taking into consideration the allegations that the victims of the Rana Plaza collapse did not get compensation accordingly.
“We’re planning to rehabilitate the victims,” he said.
The ILO country director said his organization has been working with labour, government and owner, adding that they have not only worked on issues involving labours, but also work to provide them necessary legal aid services and upgrading their living standard.
He also said that the ILO has also been working to improve the judicial activities alongside ensuring everyone’s access to jobs.
