A memorial meeting and prayer ceremony was held at Eastern University (EU) in memory of former Assistant Professor Md. Iftekhar Mahmud of the Law Department.
The event took place at the university premises with the presence of teachers, students, administrative staff, colleagues, and family members. It was organized as a tribute to his memory and contributions.
Since his passing, a deep sense of sorrow has permeated the university community. He was more than just a teacher; he was a beacon of knowledge and a source of light. His humane character, strict discipline, and diligent nature earned him the deep love and respect of all. Md. Iftekhar Mahmud was also a writer who explored life’s realities and philosophical thoughts through seven well-regarded books, establishing his reputation as a thoughtful scholar and intellectual researcher. October 30, 2025, has been declared a day of profound mourning for the Eastern University family.
The program featured a speech by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhan, who remarked that Md. Iftekhar Mahmud exemplified the beauty of a flower’s fragrance and the sweetness of its petals through his literary contributions. He also highlighted the profound impact Professor Mahmud had on students, teachers, and academic life. Vice-Chancellor Sobhan urged all to honor his memory by upholding the values and principles he stood for.
