During a seminar titled ‘Students’ Engagement to Combat Cybercrime’ held at the CID headquarters in Malibagh, the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia, emphasised the need for specialised education in forensics in Bangladesh.

Mohammad Ali Mia said, “Unlike India, which has a forensic university, there is currently no such institution in our country. Efforts are underway to introduce a forensic university in Bangladesh and have proposed the establishment of a separate department on forensics at Dhaka University.”

He expressed optimism that the initiative would be taken soon, following discussions with the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.

The seminar saw the participation of 247 students, including representatives from various universities such as Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Jagannath University, BRAC University, North South University, Uttara University, Canadian University, and Green University.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Special Superintendent of Police Tauhidul Islam from CID’s Cyber Investigation and Ops Division, focusing on combating cybercrime. Digital Forensics Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Haque presented an article on digital forensics, while Associate Professor Dr. Khan Sarfraz Ali from INTI International University Malaysia served as the moderator.

CID Additional DIG (Admin & Forensic) Tanver Haider Chowdhury concluded the seminar with a closing speech in his capacity as the President.
