BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said the struggle must continue until justice and the rule of law are established in Bangladesh.

In a statement on the occasion of the holy Ashura, Tarique Rahman claimed that the last 16 years under the “fallen fascist Awami government” have been marked by sham elections, rigging votes, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, widespread violence, and rampant corruption, including money laundering abroad.

“BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was unjustly imprisoned based on fabricated cases and deprived of proper medical treatment, putting her life at risk,” Tarique said.

BNP Acting Chairman likened the oppression carried out by Awami League leaders to the tyranny of Yazid’s forces.

In the message, he said the 10th of Muharram is a deeply significant and memorable day for Muslims, as many historic events unfolded on this date.

“As such, the sanctity of this day is immense. It is a day marked by the memory of a tragic and sorrowful event, which we observe as the holy Ashura,” he said.

Tarique Rahman noted that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred on this very day in the desert of Karbala while standing up against injustice and tyranny.

“This is a day of mourning, reverence, and sacrifice,” he said.
He said that Imam Hussain’s (RA) courageous stand was against worldly injustice and corruption which has become an eternal example for Muslims across the world, including Bangladesh.

The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his sacrifices to uphold the principles of Islam are a profound source of inspiration, he said. They reflect the highest values of justice, piety, dignity, and submission to the will of the Creator.

Tarique Rahman described the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) as an unparalleled ideological struggle against oppression and tyranny.

He said the companions of Imam Hussain (RA)-the Imam Bahini-gave their lives in a battle against those who were intoxicated with power and who trampled upon justice and humanity. Their martyrdom continues to inspire the oppressed across the globe in their quest for freedom from the grip of tyranny.
