A dreadful erosion started in Bangabandhu Mongla-Ghasiakali International Water Channel at the village Romjaipur under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district in the last fortnight. As a result, more than one hundred families were marooned. By this time homesteads of some 08 families of the village were engulfed by the strong current of the channel. On the other hand, some 20 other families are on the verge of erosion. But unfortunately no help was given to the erosion affected families so far either by government or NGOs.
At the time of visiting the erosion affected village Romjaipur it is known that at the night of July 22 on the occasion of the moonlit night the strong current of the high tide more than 50 miters of the village protection embankment were broken and consequently, some eight dwelling houses were eroded, 02 poles of electricity were uprooted by Bangabandhu Mongla-Ghasiakhali international water channel and 20 other dwelling houses and 04 electricity-poles are on the risk. Not only that but also 2 kilometers half brick soiled and a half kancha 2 kilometers road were broken, shrimps, lobster and white fish of 150 acres of fish farms and ponds were washed away incurring to loss of several lakhs.
