Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner (chief) Sajjat Ali said that the era of the “helmet team” has ended.
He referred particularly members of the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of AL, gained notoriety for attacking AL oppositions in this manner.
Speaking at an event organised by the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) at Segunbagicha in the capital, Ali also called on journalists to inform him about previous incidents of attacks on media workers.
“I will make arrangements to investigate those incidents.”
About security preparations ahead of the upcoming festivals and national holidays, he said, “Dhaka residents will gather at various places on 14, 16 and 25 December, and during the new year celebrations. I hope all these events will be celebrated happily and safely. I think there is no lack of security centring the events.”
Seeking cooperation from journalists, the DMP chief said, “Our only aim is to serve the people of the city. After July and August, you have seen how the wealth of the people of Dhaka was looted, and how unsafe Dhaka became. Along with my colleagues and the cooperation of journalists, there will be no compromises in serving the people of Dhaka. Such instructions have been given to all our colleagues.”
