Ensure public safety: Criminal activities have taken a terrific turn
Terrible criminal activities have become visible in Bangladesh nowadays, which is shaking the foundations of society, the state, and humanity. The deterioration of the law and order situation is not being stopped in any way. Incidents of murder, terrorism, robbery, snatching, looting, kidnapping, and hostage-taking for ransom have increased across the country.
Media reports have revealed that the number of bodies of unidentified persons being recovered from rivers, water bodies, and bushes is increasing. The number of rapes and post-rape murders is also increasing. Along with this, the incidents of extortion have increased. Extortion is being done even by creating mobs. From children to the elderly, there is no escape from rape. In such a situation, the common people across the country are in extreme anxiety. Fear are robbing people of their sleep.
According to statistics from the Police Headquarters, an average of 540 cases was reported per month in the first eight months of this year (January-August). In the previous year, there was an average of 445 cases per month. This year, on average, there have been 95 more cases per month of murder, robbery, women and child abuse, and rape than the previous year. And compared to 2023, there have been 160 more cases per month this year. In 2023, there were an average of 135 cases per month.
After the interim government took office, people expected that the law and order situation in the country would improve. Murder, terrorism, theft, robbery, dacoity and extortion would decrease.
But people are getting disappointed, instead of getting better, the situation is getting worse day by day. Even Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed himself admitted that extortion has increased in the country after August 5 last year. He said the interim government has not been able to control extortion and it is not possible to control extortion without a political government.
Crime analysts say that crime is increasing due to unemployment, drug addiction, and social inequality. Investment in the country is being hampered, employment is not increasing, and existing factories are also closing. As a result, unemployment is increasing exponentially.
According to media reports, lakhs of workers have become unemployed in a year. If even 5 percent of them are forced to engage in crime, how terrible the situation will be!
People want security; they want to live with dignity and respect. And it is the responsibility of the state to ensure that. Therefore, the interim government must act to improve the situation. Otherwise, people’s anger will continue to grow.
