Ensure industry safety, prevent extortion

Biz leaders urge Army chief

The leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Thursday requested the Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman to ensure industrial safety and prevent extortion in order to ensure a business-friendly environment and keep the production as well as supply system operational in the country.

The business representatives came up with the call at a courtesy call with the Waker-Uz-Zaman at Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment, according to a press release.

The former presidents of the country’s apex trade body Mahbubur Rahman, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Mir Nasir Hossain,  AK Azad, Md Jashim Uddin, Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals Limited Tapan Chowdhury, President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) Ashraf Ahmed, Acting President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, and CEO of Standard Chartered Bangladesh Naser Ezaz Bijoy were present in the meeting.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam thanked the Bangladesh Army for conducting various activities and patrolling in the industrial areas to ensure the security of industrial security. He also requested the army to strengthen security in the industry and restore confidence among traders.

In his speech, the army chief assured the business leaders that they would properly fulfil their responsibility to ensure the safety of all the citizens of the country as well as the business community.

He said that the Bangladesh Army is always active to ensure that domestic and foreign investors can carry out commercial activities smoothly, including industrial establishments, supply chain, and port security.

Waker-Uz-Zaman urged the business community to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in case of any threat to any industrial establishment.
