Engineer Md. Rafiqul Islam Choube joined the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) as Additional Director General (Western Region) on February 11, 2025. Prior to assuming this position, he served as Chief Engineer (Civil) Monitoring.
He obtained his BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1991. In 1993, he joined the Bangladesh Water Development Board as an Assistant Engineer (Civil).
Over the years, he has successfully held various key positions within the board, including Sub-Divisional Engineer, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, and Chief Engineer. During his tenure, he played a significant role in planning, designing, and field-level implementation of several major projects, including those supported by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
With over 31 years of service in the Bangladesh Water Development Board, he has participated in numerous seminars and training programs in the USA, Australia, France, Switzerland, South Korea, China, the UK, the Netherlands, and Vietnam. He has effectively applied the knowledge gained from these experiences to enhance the board’s activities.
Engineer Md. Rafiqul Islam Choube was born in 1967 into a respected Muslim family in Pabna District, Bangladesh. He is a lifetime member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and a member of the BUET Graduate Club, Dhaka.
