Eminent artistes visit damaged BTV building

Noted cultural personalities visiting BTV to observe its devastated condition

Eminent people from the cultural arena of the country visited the Bangladesh Television (BTV) affected by the violence of the quota movement.
On Monday (July 29) afternoon, noted drama personality Ramendu Majumdar, Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu, noted TV personality
M Hamid, Faridur Reza Sagar, Shykh Seraj, noted drama personality Sara Zaker, Lucky Enam, SM Haroon-or-Rashid, Jhuna Chowdhury, Pijush Bondyopadhyay, Rezanur Rahman, President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus and General Secretary Ahkam Ullah, and among others of the cultural arena came to the BTV.
BTV Director General Dr Md Jahangir Alam, and BTV’s Dhaka Centre’s General Manager Mahafuza Akter along with senior officials of BTV were present on the occasion.
After visiting the BTV building, cultural personalities expressed emotional reactions.
Ramendu Majumdar said, “We have a passion for BTV. The image of destruction we saw today, we could not even imagine that it is possible
to destroy like this.”
Nasiruddin Yousuff gave his response saying, “We have to watch the scene that feels impossible. That might carry us to death. Don’t just investigate in the name of investigation. We want a white paper.”
Former Director General of BTV, M Hamid said, “It is very sad. I strongly condemn this incident. I want these miscreants to be freed from this kind of mentality. Mentality changes in everyone.”
Faridur Reza Sagar said, “I have many memories in BTV.
It is difficult to imagine that it will burn in the fire like this.”
Shykh Seraj said, “BTV has given guidance on what kind of culture and art culture of Bangladesh will be before
and after the independence of Bangladesh. That television was destroyed like this.”
Sara Zaker shared her feelings by this way, “I am shocked and saddened by the destruction of BTV.”
Lucky Enam said, “BTV’s archive was so valuable. Everything has been destroyed. It can be thought!”
Drama personality of BTV’s former Director General SM Haroon-or-Rashid said, “It may be possible to rebuild its ruins by spending thousands of moneys, but the museum preserves the heritage and the history of a country, where do we get it? It is no longer available.”
Noted actor Jhuna Chowdhury said, “If I had not come here, then I could not have imagined, such a massive attack, everything has been ended like this.”
Golam Kuddus said in his reply said, “We observed the attempt to destroy all the cultural elements that were preserved in BTV for
hundreds of years.”
Ahkam Ullah shared his feelings by this way, “The young generation of the Liberation War cannot do it. Behind this I can say for sure, only the forces opposing the liberation war and their generations can do such a thing.”
After the visit to BTV, prominent people from the cultural arena visited Dhaka Medical College to see the injured in the violence of the quota movement and sought their treatment.
