NN Online:

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday claimed that attempts are being made to delay the upcoming national election, accusing certain quarters—both within and outside the interim government—of harboring a concealed agenda behind the ongoing reform discourse.

“It appears that the process of procrastinating the next national election is already in motion. The future of the election seems trapped in a cycle of so-called ‘minimum’ and ‘maximum’ reform demands,” he said.

Tarique made these remarks while addressing a massive youth rally via a virtual platform from abroad. The rally was held in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.

He alleged that a growing number of people now suspect that some individuals are using the reform agenda as a pretext to buy time and delay the electoral process.

The event was jointly organized by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swecchasebak Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), with Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna presiding over the program.

Tens of thousands of youths from Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Faridpur divisions took part in the rally, held in observance of the martyrdom month of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.

Senior BNP leaders including standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed the gathering. Swechasebak Dal President SM Jilani and JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib were among the speakers as well.
