Election schedule in early December, polls in February: EC Anwarul

Staff Reporter :

Election Commissioner (EC) Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said, “The schedule for the national parliamentary election will be announced in the first week of December, and the election will be held in February before the holy month of Ramadan. We have already published the election work plan.”

He made these remarks while speaking at a meeting with journalists at the Patuakhali Circuit House on Friday afternoon.

In response to journalists’ questions, he further said, “The proportional representation (PR) system is entirely a political issue.

The Election Commission is waiting to see what political decision comes regarding it. As for the referendum-whether it will take place before or after the election-this matter has not yet come to the attention of the Election Commission.

The government’s preparations or decisions regarding the referendum have also not yet been communicated to the Commission.”

Addressing expatriates, he said, “Registration for expatriate voters will begin in November. Arrangements have also been made to ensure that those who are imprisoned can cast their votes.”

Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Akhtar Ahmed, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, and other senior administrative officials were present at the meeting.
