BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has pledged to establish a national government with the participation of all supportive parties if his party comes to power.
Speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday, he underlined the importance of collaborative governance.
“If elected, we will not govern alone. So, what’s the issue? What’s the uncertainty?” Fakhrul questioned, addressing concerns about the BNP’s leadership plans.
He stressed the need for immediate electoral reforms and urged the interim government to prioritise overhauling the Election Commission, administration, and judiciary. “The public has started doubting you [the interim government].
Members of the government are creating confusion with conflicting remarks,” he observed. Fakhrul argued that once a credible election is held, the elected representatives should take responsibility for completing the necessary reforms.
The BNP leader criticised the interim government for its perceived lack of political understanding. Referring to recent factory fires, he remarked, “Factories, which are vital assets for our country, are being set on fire. Why can’t they address this? Because there is no politics here.
They lack political strength.”
Fakhrul also questioned the administration’s handling of student protests at Government Titumir College, pointing out its failure to foresee unrest and take preventive measures.
