An eight-day long tree planting campaign and tree fair-2025 has begun in Jessore with the theme of “Planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh”.
The fair was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Md. Azaharul Islam at the Central Eidgah ground on Saturday (July 19) afternoon by cutting the ribbon and releasing balloons and festoons at the initiative of the District Administration and Social Forestry Department of Jessore.
Speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting on the occasion of the fair, Deputy Commissioner Azaharul Islam said that one tree can save the lives of 10 people. People and trees are related to each other. If there are trees, there will be people, if there are no trees, there will be no people.
If we want to keep our world alive, then we have to plant more and more trees.
The aim of the fair is to increase the demand for trees among people. The special guest was Abu Talha, Training Officer of the District Agricultural Extension Department.
The speech was delivered by Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forest Division, Jessore, Amita Mandal. The speeches were delivered by Press Club Jessore President Zahid Hasan Tukun, Officer-in-Charge of Jessore Forest Division NM Mizanur Rahman, Vice President of Khelafat Majlish Jessore District Mizanur Rahman, Organizer of Jatiya Nagorik Party Jessore Nuruzzaman, Student Representative of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Al Mamun Likhon, etc.
The speech was moderated by Sohanur Rahman Sohag, Former Joint Convener of Jessore of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forest Division, Jessore Amita Mandal said, “Trees are our life, trees are our best friend.
The main goal of our current government is environmental balance and we need to do planned afforestation for climate change.” And to protect biodiversity through this afforestation, we must emphasize on planting native species of trees.
Because most of these native species of trees are on the verge of extinction. We must plant more of the trees that are decreasing. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has asked not to plant, raise, or sell Akashmani and eucalyptus trees that are harmful to the environment.
Therefore, it appeals to everyone not to plant these two types of trees. Stalls from 30 government and private nurseries have participated in the fair. Where seedlings of various species of fruits, forest and medicinal plants are available. Visitors can visit the fair and collect seedlings every day from 9 am to 8 pm.
