The holy Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in Sylhet in a festive atmosphere and with due dignity. Eid congregations were held in various mosques and open grounds including the historic Shahi Eidgah, Alia Madrasa Ground, Shahjalal Dargah and Qudratullah Jame Mosque in the morning.
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr in Sylhet was held in the 700-year-old traditional Shahi Eidgah Ground. On Monday, Eid day, at 8:30 am, devotees stood in a row, forgetting the differences between rich and poor, and offered Eid prayers.
Devotees from different areas of the city gathered at Shahi Eidgah Ground after the Fajr prayers to participate in the prayers. The devotees, smeared with perfume, set out for the prayers with their morning prayers and tasbeehs in their hands.
The prayer was led by Maulana Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Imam and Khatib of Bandarbazar Central Jame Mosque in Sylhet Metropolitan City. Renowned scholar Shaykhul Hadith Allama Mufti Rashidur Rahman Faruk delivered the sermon and conducted the prayer after the Eid prayers.
The worshippers raised their hands and prayed to Allah Almighty for the well-being of the country and the nation. After the prayers, the devout worshippers exchanged Eid greetings along with hugs.
The Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner announced four-level security for the safety of worshippers on Eid-ul-Fitr. A four-level security system was taken around the Eid prayers at the Shahi Eidgah. CCTV cameras were installed. There were multiple check posts on the roads in the surrounding areas. Along with regular patrols, members of the law enforcement agencies in plain clothes performed their duties. Two watch towers were installed to monitor security.
Before the Eid prayers at Shahi Eidgah, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, former mayor and BNP Chairperson’s advisor Ariful Haque Chowdhury delivered greetings to the devotees. At that time, BNP Central Co-Organizing Secretary Miftah Siddiqui, District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman, Metropolitan Ameer Fakhrul Islam, District BNP General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, Jatiya Nagorik Party Central Member Barrister Nurul Huda Juned, and other administration and political party leaders were present.
The law enforcement agencies said that this time Eid Jamaat was held at 392 places in the Sylhet City Corporation area. Some Eidgahs and mosques held more than one congregation. Four-tier security of the law enforcement agencies has been strengthened to ensure smooth movement and safety of the devotees during the prayers.
Apart from the traditional Shahi Eidgah, Eid congregations were held at various places in Sylhet. The Eid congregation was held at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Shrine Jame Mosque at 8:30 am. Apart from this, three congregations were held at the Qudrat Ullah Jame Mosque. The first one was at 7:30 am, the second at 8:30 am and the third at 9:30 am. Anjuman-e-Khedamate Quran Sylhet was held at the Government Alia Madrasa ground at 8:30 am under the initiative of Anjuman-e-Khedamate Quran Sylhet.
