After long fifteen years, the people of the country have been able to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in a relaxed atmosphere, free from fascist rule. They are now enjoying the benefits of the victory achieved on August 5 last year in the student- people uprising.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, addressed the nation after offering Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
In his speech, he pledged to overcome all obstacles and form a new Bangladesh as a united nation. In fact, the relief felt by people during this Eid will go down in history as a milestone.
The law and order situation in the country was good during Eid. It has been proven once again that it is not difficult to strengthen the security of people’s lives and property if the authorities have the will.
This time, Eid prayers were organised for the first time at the old trade fair grounds in Agargaon in the capital. The joyous procession after the Eid congregation added a new dimension to this. The procession ended at Manik Mia Avenue.
Many participants in the rally sang in unison the timeless Eid-ul-Fitr song written by national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam – “Ramzaner Oi Rozar sheshe Elo Khushir Eid.”
Many people rode on horseback in a row with flags of different colours. The participation of a musical group gave a different dimension to the rally. People could not even imagine such a joyful rally on the Eid Day in the capital for the past fifteen years.
After the Eid holidays, workers, employees and people have started returning to the capital Dhaka. As there is not much pressure of passengers on trains, launches and buses after the Eid, people are returning to Dhaka with a sense of relief.
There has also been no disruption to the railway schedule like in the past. There have also been no accidents on the waterways. However, there have been fatalities in road accidents this year as well.
All the points of Cox’s Bazar sea beach were crowded during the Eid holidays. To increase the income in this sector, the authorities should pay more attention to the overall safety of tourists. This time, expatriates have also sent more remittances through legal channels than at any time in the past.
If expatriates are encouraged to send remittances through legal channels, the remittance flow will surely increase further.
