Several parts of Bangladesh are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today, Sunday (March 30), in alignment with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
According to reports from BanglaNews correspondents, regions in the south, including Chandpur, Feni, Barisal, and Lakshmipur, among others, have commenced their Eid celebrations.
Chandpur: In Chandpur’s Hajiganj Upazila, the Sadr Darbar Sharif and approximately 50 villages are observing Eid-ul-Fitr today. Following Saudi Arabia’s Eid announcement on Saturday (March 29) night, these communities scheduled their Eid prayers accordingly.
The first Eid congregation took place at Sadr Darbar Sharif ground at 9 AM, led by Pirzada Maulana Mufti Zakaria Chowdhury. The second congregation followed at 9:30 AM at Sadr Hamidia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa field, with Maulana Mufti Arif Chowdhury leading the prayers. Devotees from neighboring villages joined the congregations, concluding with prayers for global peace and prosperity.
Pirzada Maulana Mufti Arif Chowdhury of Darbar Sharif emphasized that their practice of fasting and celebrating Eid is based on moon sightings according to the Quran and Hadith. He mentioned that their tradition dates back to 1928 when Pir Maulana Ishaq (Rah.) initiated this practice, aligning Eid and Ramadan with Saudi Arabia.
Feni: Three Eid congregations were held in Feni, including at two separate locations in Sultanpur Ward No. 7 and another in Kolapara, Parshuram Municipality.
Barisal: In Barisal, Eid prayers were conducted by followers of the Chittagong-based Chandanaish Elahabad Jahagiriya Shahsufi Darbar Sharif, Satkania Mirzakhali Darbar Sharif, and the Ahmadiyya Jamaat. The main congregation was held at Haji Bari Shahsufi Jahagiriya Jame Mosque in Ward No. 23 at 9 AM.
Bhola: Over 5,000 people from ten villages in five upazilas of Bhola celebrated Eid today, following the practice of the Sureshwar Darbar’s followers. This tradition has reportedly continued for over a century.
Bagerhat: Residents of Chaterhat Bazar in Mongla’s Sundarban Union held Eid prayers at 8 AM at Chaterhat Bazar Jame Mosque, with Maulana Abdur Rahman leading the congregation. Over 100 worshippers attended.
Lakshmipur: In Lakshmipur’s Ramganj upazila, around 1,000 people from 10 villages, along with another group from Raypur, observed Eid-ul-Fitr in advance. The largest congregation was held at the Dakkhin-Purba Noagaon Talimul Quran Nurani Madrasa Eidgah ground at 10 AM.
Patuakhali: At least 30 Eid congregations took place across Patuakhali, where around 6,000 devotees attended prayers, and approximately 25,000 celebrated Eid early. The main congregation was held at Badarpur Darbar Sharif at 9 AM.
Narayanganj: In Narayanganj’s Fatullah, followers of the Jahagiriya Sufi order observed Eid at Lamapara’s Hazrat Shah Sufi Momtazia Orphanage and Madrasa at 9:30 AM. The congregation was led by Mufti Maulana Anwar Hossain Shuvo.
Satkhira: At least 20 villages in Satkhira marked Eid today. The central congregation was held at 8 AM at Bharukhali Ahle Sunnah Al Jamaat Jame Mosque in Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
Jamalpur: Several villages in Sarishabari and three other upazilas of Jamalpur celebrated Eid. The main congregation took place at 8:30 AM at Master Bari Jame Mosque field in Ballardia, led by Maulana Azim Uddin. Notably, women also participated in the prayers.
Chapainawabganj: Four hundred Muslim devotees from five villages in Chapainawabganj’s Sadar and Shibganj upazilas celebrated Eid today. Women also prayed while maintaining segregation.
Faridpur: In Boalmari, 10 villages observed Eid today, while residents of Shukurhata and Ichapasha in Alfadanga Upazila followed suit.
Gaibandha: As in previous years, Muslims in Palashbari Upazila celebrated Eid in accordance with Saudi Arabia. The main congregation was held at Taluk Ghorabandha village at 8:45 AM.
Dinajpur: Several villages in Dinajpur observed Eid today, with a congregation at Charubabu Mor Community Center at 7 AM. The prayers were led by Maulana Abdur Razzak from Biral Upazila’s Family Care Madrasa, attended by over 300 worshippers.
Noakhali: Four villages in Noakhali aligned their Eid celebrations with Saudi Arabia, with 10 mosques across three upazilas hosting prayers at 9 AM.
This annual tradition, observed in various regions of Bangladesh, continues as certain groups prefer to celebrate Eid based on Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting.
