Staff Reporter :

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that efforts are underway to bring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country through the Interpol.

He stated, “This process is ongoing at all times. A formal request has been made by the government, and Interpol is proceeding according to international law.”

He made these remarks to journalists on Saturday morning after inspecting the immigration system at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The adviser added, “Interpol will not act based on what I say. In this case, they will act according to their own rules and regulations.”

Regarding the ongoing movement and blockade demanding the banning of Awami League, he said, “You (journalists) can also play a role in raising awareness so that the general public does not suffer. If such protest movements could be relocated from the streets to a place where they do not cause inconvenience, that would be very good. I wouldn’t call their demands unreasonable.

They have already shifted their movement from where it initially started. Even then, they are allowing emergency vehicles to pass.”

At this time, the adviser also spoke about the recent incident involving former President Abdul Hamid’s departure from the country.

He said, “Those who were negligent in Abdul Hamid’s departure will not be spared. Some have been suspended, and some have been attached elsewhere.

A probe committee has been formed and it has been instructed to submit a report within three working days. Based on the report, legal action will be taken against those found responsible.”
When asked whether there was a restriction from the Special Branch (SB), he said, “I have no information on this matter. However, I have heard about it from journalists. The investigation committee will also look into this.”

Regarding the immigration system, the adviser said, “I haven’t traveled abroad since 2011, so I came to see how the system is now. Compared to before, many things have become modern and improved.”
