BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed concern amid the growing controversy over the Bangladesh Army’s role during the July-August mass upsurge, accusing certain forces of attempting to pit the army against the people.

“The country is experiencing instability, and people are seeking the return of peace. No one wants the situation to revert to what it was before,” he said this while virtually addressing an iftar party held at the Ladies Club in Dhaka on Monday.

The BNP acting chairman said, “It is important to stand united together and confront all conspiracies at any cost. The Liberation War was fought with great expectations, and for 16 years, political party leaders and activists made sacrifices.”

He pointed out that many lives were lost during the July uprising, and their sacrifices must not be allowed to go in vain. He also urged media professionals to present the truth to the nation.

Meanwhile, at the same Iftar event, BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that a well-coordinated conspiracy has begun to destabilise the country and efforts are being made to tarnish the image of the military in an attempt to jeopardise the country’s independence and sovereignty.
