Staff Reporter  :
Economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, Education and Planning Adviser to the interim government, has expressed doubts about the feasibility of implementing the current new curriculum, suggesting a return to the previous education system.

Speaking from his office at the Ministry of Education on Sunday, 18 August, Wahiduddin Mahmud emphasised that the transition would be managed carefully to ensure that students currently under the new curriculum do not experience any disruption.

“We will revert to the previous education system as soon as possible, but in such a way that the students don’t feel any discomfort,” said the
Education Adviser.

He added, “I don’t think it is possible to implement the new curriculum, and it is best to go back to the previous system.

However, this will be done step by step. I will ensure that students do not face any trouble.”

Mahmud clarified that while the new curriculum will not be immediately halted, it will be revised gradually.

“We will not let them feel any trouble. I am not saying that the curriculum will be stopped now, rather it will be revised,” he remarked.

Addressing broader concerns about the state of education, the Education Adviser acknowledged the ongoing challenges within the sector.

“The education system has been damaged due to corruption, factionalism, and the presence of incompetent teachers.

To fix this, the education community will be reorganised with qualified and educated individuals,” he stated.

Mahmud also stressed the need to remove unqualified individuals from the management committees of educational institutions.

“Uneducated people have become members of the managing committee, and they should be removed first for proper change,” he concluded.
