NN Online:

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has emphasised the importance of neutrality in the electoral process, affirming that it will not align with any political party. He expressed concern over criticisms directed at the commission, underscoring the challenges faced while striving to maintain neutrality in a politically charged environment.

The CEC made these remarks while addressing a function at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital on Sunday.

He said, “We, who are in the commission, do not want to engage in politics… we do not want to support or oppose any political party… we want to remain neutral.”

The CEC emphasised that dissenting opinions are natural in any society and do not necessarily equate to opposition. He acknowledged that while differing viewpoints on the same issue are common, some people struggle to accept this reality.

Highlighting the need for cooperation from all sectors of society for fair elections, he said, “Political control over the election commission must be eliminated. The commission is committed to conducting transparent elections, ready to face any challenges that arise.

“We are committed to holding a free and fair election. But it won’t be possible for us alone unless we receive cooperation from all segments of society.”
