EC to announce polling centers list today

Staff Reporter:

The Election Commission (EC) is set to publish the final list of polling centers for the upcoming national elections on Monday, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced on Sunday.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Commonwealth delegation at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, the Senior Secretary said that although the list was initially scheduled to be published by October 20 under the pre-announced election roadmap, several proposed corrections caused a short delay.

“After completing the necessary revisions, the list has been finalized and will be made public tomorrow morning,” he confirmed.

Regarding the registration of new political parties, Akhtar Ahmed said that the review process is in its final stage as the EC has received additional information from field-level verification. “We expect to complete the registration process within this week,” he added.

When asked about the allocation of election symbols, the EC official refrained from giving a direct response, saying that the matter would be addressed later.

Commenting on the implementation of the election roadmap, the Senior Secretary noted, “It’s not always possible to execute every step exactly on time. Some adjustments have been made in line with the ground realities. However, there is no reason for concern at this stage.”

In response to a question about the explosion near the Election Commission building last night, Akhtar Ahmed said the matter is under investigation. “If necessary, a case will be filed after the inquiry,” he stated.

The Election Commission is moving ahead with preparations for the upcoming national parliamentary elections, expected to be one of the most closely watched political events in Bangladesh in recent years.
