Election code violation: EC serves notices to Khokan, Milon

The Election Commission (EC) has issued show cause notices to ruling Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Sayeed Khokon and Jatiya Party-backed Saifuddin Ahmed Milon for violation of election code.
A letter signed by Returning Officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed was sent to Sayeed Khokon, mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), on Saturday noon.
He was asked to reply the show cause notice within April 5.
 “The two mayoral candidates were asked to explain by 3pm Sunday why action will not be taken against them,” Returning Officer (RO) of Dhaka South City Corporation election
Mihir Sarwar Morshed said on Saturday.
In the show-cause notice the Commission said Sayeed Khokan carried out election campaign and sought votes from people after the Juma prayers.
On behalf of Sayeed Khokan, Haji Selim sought blessings of the voters of old Dhaka which is a violation of electoral code of conduct.
It came to the notice of the Commission through electronic and print media reports.
On the other hand, the notice sent to Saifuddin Ahmed Milon said that Returning Officers found his posters in various places violating the electoral code of conduct.
Besides, a total of eight councillor candidates have been served with show-cause notices on various allegations.
